Primary Curriculum and Pedagogy Update - Curriculum Reform in Action: HSIE & PDHPE
Over two days, educators gathered for the Curriculum Reform – HSIE and PDHPE Day, a rich opportunity to explore how layering of resources, perspectives, and Catholic principles can strengthen teaching and learning across the new PDHPE and HSIE syllabuses.
The program was delivered on the first day in the VPS/Southern Cross Hall and on the second day it “went on tour” to Muswellbrook. Across both days, around 70 attendees engaged with the sessions, supported by more than 10 presenters.
The sessions began with unpacking how these elements can be embedded at the curriculum and programming stage. This was followed by practical workshops featuring worked examples and pedagogy in practice. Participants were able to engage directly with the resources, seeing first-hand how layering enriches curriculum content and deepens student engagement.
The success of the days was made possible through the collaboration of several Catholic Schools teams, including Curriculum & Pedagogy, Aboriginal Education, Religious Education & Spirituality, High Potential Gifted Education, Early Learning, and DIAL. Their combined expertise highlighted the power of cross-team collaboration in supporting schools to implement curriculum reform with confidence and creativity.
